Carolina Country.

there is something about the carolinas in the fall. there is something about the carolinas period. there is an intrinsic beauty found here that is different from anywhere and everywhere else. this beauty makes it harder to leave and journey home each time. this beauty is one that i have had the joy of experiencing since i was born but is seen in a different light as an adult and becomes more fully appreciated with the passing of time. this beauty makes me want to bask in the glory of each and every minute spent there with my family as long as possible. this beauty never disappoints. this beauty invites new adventure every time. this beauty makes me wish i could hold on to every sight, sound and feeling when i am afar — the crispness of mountain air, the comfort found only in warm embraces of family and the magnitude of creation seen with each passing sunset.

this beauty took on an even greater meaning this time as I was introduced to the newest member of our family, Lily Grace. I look forward to being a part of her life as she grows up discovering this same beauty. I look forward to rediscovering the beauty that exists in the smallest details of life through her eyes.

Mary Me

Now that I have your attention please note that this blog post title has nothing to do with what you think it does. Nothing at all in fact. This first post is simply dedicated to my dear friend Mary & her own blog. Get it now?

As if I don't write enough throughout the day I decided to actually give this blog the time of day that it truly deserves. Getting paid to write has helped me really understand differing views on how something should be written and how to cater to these views. If art is subjective and writing is a form of art, writing is also subjective. If something I am writing seems confusing, it is probably an indirect reflection of my life at the time of my writing. I see that as part of the beauty in the expression aspect of writing. But does anyone actually write anymore? I mean pen to the paper, actually writing. I fill my recycling bin at work everyday with starbucks cups and marked up papers that I have gone wild printing and scribbling all over. This still does not count. I will say I also supplement technology with scribbling things down during interviews, making to do lists and personal notes throughout the day and writing in my planner (even if it is backdated at times) so that when I look back I can have some level of recap of a specific day, in an attempt to hopefully trigger a more detailed picture.

As much as I appreciate the convenience of all things virtual, I like tangibility. Let's face it, everything truly does look better on paper. Writing things down has helped me understand a great many things over the years. It has helped me understand both things about myself and myself in relationship to the existence of everything around me. I am not sure where I would be, or who I would be without having writing as an outlet. And so this is it. This is what I want to do with my professional and my personal life in some way, shape or form, for the duration of my life. I want to impact lives through the art of written language just as the words of others on paper have have impacted me and rattled me at my core. If society wants to define me by my work, may I always pour a bit of myself into everything that I put onto paper so that I mark my words.

I have a lot of ideas of what I would like to use this blog for but I am a Gemini at heart.

... To be continued.
